Payrolls belong to the workers, do not pay them to cybercriminals

I would like to inform you about a recent alert issued by the Computer Crime Group of the National Police in Burgos. In recent weeks, a significant increase in phishing cases targeting small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) in our province has been detected.

These cyber scammers are using new tactics to obtain illicit profits. One of the most recently reported techniques involves sending fake emails to human resources or financial managers, in which criminals pose as company employees, requesting a change in the bank account number for payroll entry. . Unfortunately, some companies only become aware of fraud when the actual employee reports that they have not received their payment.

The National Cybersecurity Institute (INCIBE) has confirmed that this type of scam continues to be one of the most frequent and recognizes that companies in Spain still have a long way to go in terms of implementing effective cybersecurity measures.

To protect yourself against these threats, it is crucial to take the following measures:

1. Account Change Verification: Always confirm any change requests to your employees' banking information via a direct phone call or in person.
2. Staff training: Educate all employees on cybersecurity practices and how to identify suspicious emails.
3. Security Protocols: Strengthens our verification and authentication protocols for any financial transaction.
4. Monitoring and Update: Keep your security software updated and perform regular monitoring to detect possible vulnerabilities.

Don't let your company be another victim of these cybercriminals.

At CG Gestión, we are here to help you prevent and secure cyber risk.

Do not wait more! Protect your company now.
